Silver rather than gold is where the action is! Gold bullion and readily available business strike gold coins prior to 1933 are holding their own following a significant price run-up to an all-time record for gold. It now appears silver is doing more than just catching up.
The spot price of silver has a long way to go to reach an all-time record of about $50 an ounce, but silver American Eagles and bullion-impacted common silver coins issued through 1964 are rising quickly in price as is the spot price of their content

Weir Farm Coin Launch and Forum Canceled
According to the Mint in an official statement, The United States Mint, in consultation with the National Park Service, has canceled the Weir Farm National Historic Site 2020 America the Beautiful Quarters® Launch and Coin Forum events that were scheduled for April 6 & 7, 2020.
This preventive action is being taken in the interest of the health and well-being of employees, visitors, volunteers, and partners.
We remain hopeful that once the public health crisis has passed and restrictions on large gatherings have been lifted, the Mint and National Park Service will be able to coordinate with stakeholders in Connecticut in identifying a suitable date later this year to hold a coin forum and launch event

CCAC Recommends Congressional Gold Medal Design Honoring Chinese-American Vets
Chinese-American veterans of World War II will be recognized with a congressional gold medal, according to the authorizing legislation, Public Law 115-337. According to this legislation, “Chinese Americans served in the United States in every conflict since the Civil War and distinguished themselves in World War II, serving in every theater of war and every branch of service, earning citations for their heroism and honorable service, including the Medal of Honor.” The act also indicates that as many as 20,000 Chinese-Americana served in the Armed Forces during World War II

Palladium Takes a Plunge
I had to look twice and then again to make sure I didn’t make a blunder last week. Thankfully, it wasn’t my tired old eyes! Last week, our Mint Stats showed 16,690 sold of the 2019-W proof palladium Eagle and this week, the Mint released the updated numbers and instead of growing, that number decreased to 13,319 – a change of 3,371 or a 20% downward adjustment. That’s quite a reconciliation!
Silver bullion Eagles also saw a decrease, moving from 711,000 down to 686,000 in sales of the one-ounce coin

February production totals are in and are down 251,200,000, or 16.67%, from January. While this may seem like a significant drop, it is important to consider that January’s production totals had increased over December’s by a whopping 169%
Mint Statistics: Stronger first-quarter bullion sales for 2019 vs. 2018
With the first quarter drawing to a close, we thought it would be interesting to take a look at sales in the first quarter to 2019 as compared to the same time period in 2018. The first thing to stand out is the underperformance of the 2019 gold proof as compared with 2019.
Overall, total sales of all options offered are down about 3,500 coins, or 26%

New clients needed to kick market into high gear
The recent vertical trend for the price of gold and silver bullion, as well as in bullion and in bullion-impacted coins, took a breather as this commentary is being written. There have been a few naysayers who are calling this noticeable price decline a correction, but that is doubtful since the metals appear to be performing in tandem to the ups and downs of our currently volatile stock market.
Are the values of coins now tied to the stock market? That is doubtful, but since most collectible coins are purchased with discretionary rather than with investment money, the changes in coin values can’t be viewed in a vacuum, either

Is there any chance that the Mint would deliberately strike additional examples of some rare, new variety after it appears? I see that they have duplicated some of the hubbing varieties.
This was one of numerous rumors that floated about and were quoted widely on the Internet and some of the online services. The duplication referred to occurred only under test conditions by the Mint and was done only to determine exactly how a given variety occurred so that corrective measures could be taken to prevent it from recurring

This year’s World Money Fair was hailed a great success by attendants and participants taking into account the standpoint of ticket sales and a greater representation of national mints, international dealers, and experts in the field of coin production, design, logistics, procurement, and marketing.
Organisers were prepared for an increase in collectors and investors who were attending the fair over the usual three-day period, with this year being overseen by the World Money Fair’s new Executive Director Gitta Künker, who was named to the position in July 2018 and took over from Hans-Henning Göhrum
